Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves Field Botanist, Environmental Scientist
III, 2 year position
*Deadline: 11/15/2018
*Overview: Conducts rare plant surveys and rare plant monitoring across
Kentucky. Prepares technical reports, work plans, and other documents. Data
entry and GIS analysis. Works with a team to assess conservation status of
plants and natural communities across Kentucky in order to update official
state and federal
plant lists. Conducts general floristic inventories and monitoring and
provides assessments on natural areas (including KNP managed areas),
develops maps using ArcGIS, data entry Works with a team to develop and
implement protection strategies for rare plants including public education,
recovery management and restoration. Assists and performs management and
monitoring duties related to rare plant recovery Implementation of
management actions on natural areas including, but not limited to:
prescribed fire, invasive species control, wetland restoration, rare
species recovery. Supports KNP conservation initiatives and action items.
Conducts site inspections of important rare plant and natural community
sites across Kentucky, including KNP natural areas/nature preserves, wild
river corridors/managed areas and heritage land sites to evaluate
compliance with management plans and policies.

*Location:Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves 300 Sower Blvd | Frankfort,
KY 40601
*Compensation: $35,000 annual salary
*Who may apply: Graduate of a college or university with a degree in
natural resources, biology, conservation, or a related field. Minimum of 3
years of experience working in natural resource management or related field
(education will substitute on a year for year basis). Knowledge of Kentucky
plant taxonomy and identification, including all vascular plants (sedges,
grasses, etc), non-vascular plant knowledge is also needed.
