On Tuesday, May 5, 2015 there were 45 participants on the SOS Collectors'
Call, representing 28 collection teams.

The *SOS List* is main venue of communication from the National
Coordinating Office to folks in the field. Please share these notes and
encourage all interns, partners, collectors and managers to sign up for the
SOS list. To subscribe to the list: Send an email to
sos-request at lists.plantconservation.org with the following information in
the body of the message (not the title): SUBSCRIBE You will then receive
an email that you will need to reply to in order to confirm your
subscription. After you confirm your subscription, another e-mail will be
sent with instructions on how to use the list.

The *SOS website *(www.blm.gov/sos) is the primary resource for Technical
Protocol and all required forms, including the SOS datasheet, clearance
form, annual report template, herbarium guidance and other items.

****NEW SOS DATASHEET**** - The data fields are arranged in a slightly
different order to accommodate the new web data entry portal. Some
additional fields have been added to the datasheet. Look to the *Data
Dictionary* for descriptions and exampled of what is desired for each data
field. The pre-collection checklist is not a required portion of the
datasheet although it helps in assessing a population and determining if it
can support an SOS collection. The new data sheet and exampled data sheet
will be edited in the coming weeks to refine and clarify the desired
information.

The* web-based data entry portal* continues to be tweaked. Please continue
to collect SOS data using the data sheet. Once the data entry portal is
complete, collectors will be trained in its operation via webinar. After
this point, collection teams will be expected to enter their own data,
until that point please continue to send all data to mahaidet at blm.gov.

*Accurate Species Identification* – Specialist identification is a critical
step in each SOS collection. If there is any question about the species
identification, please look to more experienced botanists, herbarium staff,
or others to

*Clearance forms* – There forms can be filled out to request seed back from
Bend Seed Extractory. This form is editable; for efficiency sake, please
combine all collections that you would like to be returned at the same
time, onto a single clearance form. Be sure to always provide at least 30
days for Bend to process your request.
