[SOS-PCA] SOS Collectors Call Notes - 3.5.13

Haidet, Margaret mahaidet at blm.gov
Thu Mar 7 14:14:01 CST 2013

There were 28 participants on the call.

Welcome to the 2013 collection season!

Note about who should be on the collectors call: This call is primarily
intended for SOS collection team leaders and members. It is a
practitioner’s call designed for the National Coordinating Office to
provide process and procedural reminders to the field. It is also an
opportunity for the field to discuss weather, climatic conditions, ask
questions and obtain clarification regarding seed maturation, collection
techniques or anything else.

All new collectors should become familiar with the SOS Protocol. This
includes interns and any contractors that are hired out of a BLM office.

Review 2012 collections –

1600+ collections were made throughout the US – this is very good
considering the severe drought and wildfires.

Seed lots with low balances – more than 50 seed lots had a total seed
number of less than 2000 seed. Emphasized need to over-estimate population
sizes.

Bend Update - 1442 collections went into the Bend Seed Extractory, these
collections are 65% processed and 41% packaged and ready to ship to WRPIS.
By the end of March it is expected that all seed from MT, CO, WY and NM
will be cleaned. NV, AZ and UT should be complete in late May or early
June.

Planning for 2013 collections -

*** Please send targeted species lists to National Coordinating Office –
These priorities are set on the office, state and ecoregional level.

*** Please also send your estimated total collections for the 2013 season
