For those of you that may not know, the American Institute of Biological
Sciences runs the Emerging Public Policy Leadership Award (EPPLA) program.
This initiative seeks to recognize graduate students in the biological
sciences who have demonstrated an interest and promise for working at the
intersection of science and public policy. The winners receive an expense
paid trip to Washington, DC, to participate in the annual Biological and
Ecological Sciences Coalition Congressional Visits Day. As part of
this effort, they attend a Capitol Hill reception and participate in
briefings that help to demonstrate how the federal budget is crafted
(and how that impacts the conduct of science).
So, if you have or know of graduate students that might be interested
in applying -- the application process and requirements are available
at
http://www.aibs.org/public-policy/resources/EPPLAapplication-2010-announcement.pdf.
The application deadline is 5:00 PM eastern on 5 February 2010.
