Actually these days anything to help bugs is urgent.

In fact researchers use windshield counts to document the sad absence of insects along roads these days.
Silent spring!

Hi Kathy - That is a depressing tale! Which highway was it?

I once counted the number of butterflies I collided with on the highway driving home from the beach ( ~ 200 miles). I gave up at about 50 miles along the route after I had already hit 100. It was too depressing and I was getting distracted from driving.
Makes me worry about counting highway rights-of-way as good habitat for living creatures.

Sorry for any cross postings. Received notice about a National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) RFP to develop a pollinator habitat guidebook, with a focus on protecting and improving habitat adjacent to roadways. Handbook target audience: State DOTs and right-of-way owners. Proposals due January 17, 2019.
