Dear Conservation Partners and Colleagues,

The International Affairs Program of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(USFWS) is pleased to announce a new 2016 Notice of Funding Opportunity
(NOFO): Combating Wildlife Trafficking. Please see below and visit our
website

for
more information and for Spanish and French versions of the NOFO.
*Pre-Application Submission Deadline: April 22, 2016*

USFWS has developed a NOFO to provide financial assistance to projects that
advance counter-wildlife trafficking activities (wildlife defined to
include terrestrial and aquatic species and timber) as outlined in the Next
Steps of the Implementation Plan of the National Strategy for Combating
Wildlife Trafficking.

Priority will be given to projects related to the following Objectives:

1. Strengthen enforcement: Global enforcement

Crush in Times Square. Credit: Kelsey Williams/USFWS*
     a. Support governments in building capacity
     b. Support community-based wildlife
         conservation
     c. Support development and use of effective
         technologies and analytic tools

2. Reduce demand for illegally traded wildlife
     a. Raise public awareness and change behavior
     b. Promote demand reduction efforts globally

3. Expand international cooperation and commitment
     a. Strengthen international agreements and
         arrangements that protect wildlife
     b. Cooperate with other governments

The USFWS is providing this funding opportunity to enhance, not replace,
the support available for combating wildlife trafficking via other programs
such as the Multinational Species Conservation Funds. Priority will be
given to proposals that address wildlife trafficking issues and species not
otherwise captured by the other programs. Applicants are encouraged to
apply to this Notice of Funding Opportunity if the proposal directly
addresses one of the Objectives from the National Strategy and
Implementation Plan identified above.
