Heather Alley Selected for Conservation Horticulturist Position at
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia is
pleased to announce that conservation biologist Heather Alley has been
selected to fill the newly created position of Conservation
Horticulturist.

Alley, who has worked as a part-time conservation lab manager and
volunteer coordinator at the Garden since 1998, will direct plant
propagation and production for the Garden.s Plant Conservation Program and
Center for Native Plant Studies. These programs produce threatened and
endangered plant species for conservation safeguarding and native plants
of Georgia for restoration, education, and introduction to the Green
Industry.

Alley will continue to coordinate Botanical Guardians, a statewide network
of conservation volunteers. Alley received her master.s degree from UGA.s
Department of Horticulture in 2002, specializing in raising rare plants
for introduction to protected natural areas. The new Conservation
Horticulturist position provides the Garden with the opportunity to employ
Alley.s extensive experience with horticulture conservation, endangered
plant reintroduction, habitat restoration, environmental education, and
project networking with professionals, volunteers, and students across
Georgia.
