The current holder of this position is headed to retirement so there is a 
great position being advertised for director of the public  programs 
division at USBG.  This position oversees partnerships, education, 
exhibits, interpretation, and likely some science related activities. 
Please  forward to anyone who may have an interest. 
 
The USBG is  looking for someone who has plant science training, good 
management experience and museum skills. This is a fabulous job for the 
right person.  The deadline is December 5, but there it may be extended as 
we did not ask for a short vacancy period. 
 
The US Botanic Garden is within the Architect of the Capitol, hence the 
somewhat confusing language.  The job posting will also be accessible

The incumbent is the Public Programs Manager for the U.S.. Botanic Garden 
(USBG), assisting the Executive Director in planning, developing and 
carrying out programs that fulfill the USBG's educational, exhibits, 
conservatory, environmental, scientific, and curatorial missions.

Supervises a group of employees performing work at the GS-11 level and 
below. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for 
accomplishing the work of the unit.
Responsible for the development of overall long-range exhibit plans. 
Develops, reviews and approves exhibit designs. Develops and directs the 
execution of complex exhibits. Makes initial proposals, prepares 
conceptual outlines and budgets, writes scripts, assembles objects and 
graphics, and coordinates design and production activities. Provides 
technical guidance during exhibit construction.

Responsible for the gardens outreach including website, social media, and 
communications.

Performs the administrative and human resource management functions 
relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to 
subordinates. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for 
staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee 
performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff 
members. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments 
to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects 
disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this 
area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program 
activities.
Performs work associated with public service, educational, informational 
and scientific programs with national scope. Performs duties associated 
with the preparation, coordination, and delivery of lectures, tours, 
popular articles, informational pamphlets, and correspondence.

Coordinates visits of VIPs to The Architect of the Capitol facilities and 
events.

Performs work associated with collections development and management of 
plant materials. Plans and designs horticultural exhibits, selecting the 
plants to be included.

Performs work related to public affairs program activities, such as 
coordinating news and information media interviews, developing 
communication plans, coordinating agency information programs, evaluating 
agency public affairs programs including management of the garden's 
partnership program. Evaluates impacts and effectiveness of public affairs 
programs.
Coordinates visits of VIPs to The Architect of the Capitol facilities and 
events.
Performs work associated with collections development and management of

MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifying experience for the GS-14 level includes one year of specialized 
experience at least equivalent to the GS-13 level which is in or directly 
related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has 
equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and 
abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
