POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Major Gifts Manager
Reports to: Director of Development
Location: New York, NY

The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization
dedicated to protecting ecosystems and the people and wildlife that live
within them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and
consumer behavior. Companies, cooperatives and landowners that participate
in our programs meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and
provide sustainable livelihoods.

Summary of Position:
The Major Gifts Manager requires a highly organized, articulate and
creative individual to manage RA's major donor cultivation and
solicitation process. S/he will work directly with the Director of
Development and the Executive Director in creating fund-raising strategies
and developing relationships with individual donors to raise revenue.

Responsibilities:
- Create and implement short and long term action plans for major gifts
and planned giving prospects in coordination with the Director of
Development and Executive Director;
- Manage the major gift and planned giving process through the research,
solicitation and cultivation of prospects/gift donors;
- Provide guidance and supervision to the major gift's team (one F/T and
one P/T employee);
- Create and refine all major gift and planned giving materials as well as
coordinate mailings;
- Organize major donor cultivation events and donor travel programs,
including identifying speakers;
- Grow the funds from this revenue area by increasing the number of major
donors and the amount given by current donors;
- Oversee donor and prospect database ensuring accuracy and
confidentiality of the data;
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and income projections for
upcoming fiscal year, as well as monitor the income budget for the
program; and
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required;
- A minimum of three years of Major Gifts or related development
experience;
- Must have exemplary written and verbal communication skills;
- Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office & Internet);
- Knowledge of PowerPoint and Raiser's Edge donor tracking software
desirable and information management skills;
- Dependability and outstanding organizational ability with focused
attention to detail and follow through;
- Experience working with high profile donors and a record of securing
major gifts;
- Collaborative work style, superior people skills, and ability to
motivate and delegate; and
- Knowledge of Planned Giving a plus.
