POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Coffee Program Manager, Sustainable Agriculture Division
Reports to:Director, Sustainable Agriculture Division
Location: Guatemala City, Guatemala

The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization
dedicated to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on
them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer
behavior. Companies, cooperatives and landowners that participate in our
programs meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and provide
sustainable livelihoods.

The Sustainable Agriculture Program develops and implements best
management practices and standards for commodity crops, provides
incentives to farmers to meet those standards, and stimulates market
demand so that consumers can support farmers who are making progress
toward sustainability.  The Rainforest Alliance works with the Sustainable
Agriculture Network (SAN), a coalition of independent, nonprofit
conservation groups in Latin America.  After more than 15 years of proving
the concept with farmers, scientists and coffee industry leaders,
certified sustainable coffee is finding increasing enthusiasm in the
marketplace.   The program faces interesting challenges and is poised for
rapid growth.

Summary of Position: The Rainforest Alliance seeks a collaborative,
entrepreneurial, customer-focused Coffee Program Manager with overall
responsibility for all coffee related program activities.  S/he will
develop strategies for the growth of the program in collaboration with RA
staff and partner groups, including expansion to new geographic regions,
and will conceptualize and oversee implementation of projects for
corporate, private foundation, government and multi-lateral funders. The
Coffee Program Manager will ensure efficient program management that
balances the demands of mission and markets and is responsive to the needs
of farmers, RA, SAN partners, buyers, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:
- Masters or equivalent degree in agronomy, natural resources
management, international development, or related field;
- Min. of 5 yrs experience in project management, with strong
team-based orientation;
- Min. of 3 yrs experience in the global coffee industry on both
supply and demand side;
- Global perspective on how coffee is produced, traded and marketed;
- Experience with USAID and/or other bilateral donor agencies;
- Excellent Spanish and English skills, (FSI 3+) required;
- Experience with certification systems (Rainforest Alliance
Certified, organic, Fairtrade, EurepGap or FSC preferred);
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills both written
and verbal; and
- Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time.

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience.
