Dear Joanne,

Thank you for this important information.I feel that there is a need for discussion on this aspect so that we can save lives in future. The native plants of each country can play a vital role in this research.

To Folks on the List: As a bystander I would also like
to give my sympathies to the people tragically
affected and devastated in the tsunami areas.

And want to add, on a trip to Kew gardens several
years ago, a staff person mentioned some observations
about some tropical trees in their collection. while
these species survived - it wasn't until a
particularly terrible storm that they noticed these
trees actually thrived much better after the storm.
With a minimum of study or observation, the wind the
rain and perhaps other factors were quite conducive to
species that evolved where ferocious storms were
cyclically established. Perhaps KEW gardens has more
info to tap into. My short 10 days there were
fantastically amazing.

Sincerely, Joanne
