Subject: Database on antibacterial + antifungal drugs + natural
    antimicrobials - R&D information

Hello Plant Conservation Alliance

This mail contains information about an updated database on antimicrobials.

AMICBASE(-EssOil) displays the antimicrobial spectra of drugs, antibiotics, compounds produced by higher plants etc. in detail.
It is available as CS Chemfinder (CambridgeSoft Corp.) or MS Access (Microsoft, Corp.) database and as SD-file.

Volume in November 2003: 160.000 data records, >7420 compounds (+ 15% since Feb. 2003)
No. references cited: >3400 microbiology references including >1500 patents + >5000 toxicology references

Compounds covered:

Ø antibacterial and antifungal drugs (567 compounds, >55.000 data records); commercially available in Europe, USA and Japan.

Ø antibiotics (2.000 compounds, >39.000 data records)

used in following sections:
- patented antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine
- animal growth promotion
- plant protection

Ø compounds produced by higher plants, perfumery chemicals, disinfectants, preservatives, fatty acids (4.900 compounds, >74.000 data records)

important in:
- food
- cosmetics
- pharmaceuticals
- health care articles
- hygiene articles and more

A comparison of effectiveness of all compounds is possible through calculated 'Therapeutic Indices'.
(LD50/minimal inhibitory concentration). Resistant microbial strains and other strain types are annotated.

Features:
Ø 2D and 3D-compound structures
Ø Combined searches of chemical structures and antimicrobial activity or animal toxicity
Ø Pre-configured queries and reports, automated data management functions
Ø Inhibitory data is recalculated in ppm
Ø Contains actual and renamed microbial species names
Ø Contains synonyms of compounds
