Title: Lead Botanists – Great Basin (2)
Locations: Ely or Battle Mountain, NV; Salt Lake City, UT
Start date: May 16th; SOS Training on May 10th and 11th
Term length: 22 weeks
Salary: Salaried at 80 hours per two-week pay period – $22.30/hour

Position description: These Great Basin Lead Botanist positions are contract-funded positions for five months, each leading a Seeds of Success (SOS) collection crew of one field technician. The botanist based in Ely or Battle Mountain will be responsible for scouting and making collections in the Ely and Battle Mountain BLM District Offices. The botanist based in Salt Lake City will be responsible for scouting and making collections within the Salt Lake, Richfield, and Cedar City BLM Field Offices. The team will be responsible for recording scouting and collection data on a Geoplatform group through Survey123 and Field Maps on an iPad.

Primary duties:

· Coordinate with Chicago Botanic Garden and BLM to plan field operations and solve logistical problems, as well as incorporating safety plans for conducting field work safely.

· Identify at least 40 (per team) potential collection locations of priority species through scouting, analysis of online herbarium records, and previous SOS collections. The team will prioritize populations that can provide at least 90,000 estimated Pure Live Seed (PLS).

· Collect herbarium vouchers for each potential collection site. Take appropriate photos as instructed for seed certification if required.

· Monitor phenology of target plant populations to plan and execute collections.

· Lead the team in making 30 operational collections using the BLM SOS protocol https://www.blm.gov/SOS (virtual training will take place May 10th and 11th).

· Manage seed collection crew, carry out seed collections, and package seeds for shipment.

· Participate in weekly calls with the Chicago Botanic Garden, biweekly calls with BLM and the Garden, monthly Great Basin PCRP seed collection coordination calls, and monthly national SOS calls.

· Maintain running Field Report spreadsheet with road and trail mileage, as well as number of potential collection sites assessed and number of collection sites monitored for seed ripening. Also maintain data on 2022 Scouting/Collection Update Google Drive spreadsheet maintained by Great Basin SOS Coordinator.

· Complete end-of-season duties in a timely manner, including data entry into SOS Data Portal, and final report.

Title: Field Technicians (4)
Locations: One western Mojave location – Ridgecrest, CA and three Great Basin locations –Boise, ID; Battle Mountain or Ely, NV, and Susanville, CA
Start date: as soon as possible for Ridgecrest, CA; May 16th for ID and NV, June 6th for Susanville, CA; SOS Training on May 10th and 11th
Term length: Ridgecrest position is from hire date to 9/30/22; 22 weeks for Great Basin positions
Salary: Salaried at 80 hours per two-week pay period – $18.23/hour

The team will be responsible for recording scouting and collection data on a Geoplatform group through Survey123 and Field Maps on an iPad.

· Help identify potential collection locations of priority species through scouting, analysis of online herbarium records, and previous SOS collections.

· Help ensure collection of all required population scouting and seed collection data.

· Participate in weekly to biweekly calls with the Chicago Botanic Garden and BLM, ecoregional coordination calls, and monthly national SOS calls.

· Help maintain running Field Report spreadsheet with road and trail mileage, as well as number of potential collection sites assessed, and number of collection sites monitored for seed ripening.

· Help complete end-of-season duties in a timely manner, including data entry into SOS Data Portal, and final report.
