Hi everyone,

Our next collector's call will be Tuesday, June 1st. This is the day after the Monday holiday, so it might feel like a Monday, but please join us if you are able.
This is a Microsoft Teams call for all active collectors, mentors, and partners and as such, is required. Please email me if you need the invite or will not be able to attend the call. As a reminder, there is a call-in number available in the description on the invite, for those who can't be at a computer.

Monthly calls are always the first Tuesday of the month at the following time:

8 AM Alaska
9 AM Pacific
10 AM Mountain
11 AM Central
Noon Eastern

Reminders:

- Thanks to everyone who has sent in their Target Species lists so far!
- Please notify Bend when you ship seeds. Remember, if you collect from a population over multiple days, do not ship the seed until you are completely done with that collection. If a collection takes up multiple bags/boxes, they should all be sent together.
- As collecting season picks up, please double check that you are following all parts of the SOS Technical Protocol when scouting and collecting. When verifying a site/population remember to:

  * Key out your target species
  * Estimate population size & available seed
  * Evaluate current season’s fruit production
  * Estimate potential seed viability - cut tests!
  * Collect voucher specimens (3 per collection)
  *   Place markers if necessary
  * Record images, locality, microhabitat, associated species
  *   Plan return visit

And when you collect seed:

  * Estimate the number of available seeds – cut test!
  * Decide on a sampling strategy and method (walking in straight lines? sampling from every 5th plant or 20 percent from each plant?)
  * Fill out the data sheet
  * Plan a return trip if necessary
  * Optional: take photos of yourself and team in the field!

Finally, I wanted to draw attention to the Society for Ecological Restoration's upcoming conference and their Make a Difference Week hub. There are a variety of volunteer restoration opportunities across the country (and world!) leading up to the conference. To see if there is an event in your area, go to their website and click either "Event Map" or "Event Listing" at the bottom of the page:

Thanks, have a lovely weekend!

Anna
