Hi everyone,

It was great to have so many folks on the call this morning. Our next call will be Tuesday, July 6th.

Here are the highlights from the call:

  * The recording from the SOS National Training will be available soon, thanks for your patience.
  * Data Forms: Please scan and email your first SOS data form of the season to me for review. Especially if you are new to SOS, this helps us make sure you are capturing all the necessary data before the end of the field season, and before entry into the data portal. The most common mistakes on data forms are accidentally leaving fields blank, and not including enough detail in the Location Details box.
  *   Shipping:
     * Please notify Bend when you send them seed and please only ship early in the week. It is starting to get hot, and we do not want the seeds sitting in a hot truck for long.
     * Also, please seal your bags of seed really well. You should be able to shake it and not have anything fall out. This might require folding, stapling, and taping paper bags, or tightly tying cloth bags.
     * Additionally, please remember that all collections need to be treated with No Pest strips for at least 48 hours before shipping.
  * Herbarium Vouchers: Smithsonian collection staff are still not in the building and therefore unable to receive our voucher specimens at this time. Please continue to hold onto your vouchers from 2020 and 2021. If you need to send specimens, coordinate with Erika Gardener (gardnere at si.edu).
  * Seed Collection: There was a question and subsequent discussion on the call about collecting Primula hendersonii, specifically how best to deal with its variable ripening time. For some species, putting a mesh or cloth bag over the inflorescence or the whole plant sometimes works. However, this is time consuming and might not work for delicate/small plants; in such instances, tying the bag to a stake to keep the inflorescence from breaking in the wind can work. If you have experience with this or a similar species, please respond via the listserv. Additionally, if you have any other seed collecting queries, the listserv and monthly calls are great places to seek advice from others! We all love hearing about new and creative collecting methods.
  * As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns, and if there are topics you would like to see covered on a future call, please let me know.

Thanks,
Anna
