Web-based data entry portal – We are in the testing phase and on track for
being able to use this for the 2014 season.
- National Office is looking for a few people to test the website.
Please contact mahaidet at blm.gov if you are interested.

Tips for making quality native, wild land seed collections:
- Try not to collect form seeded areas, talk to local specialists,
DOT, etc. that may know about the seeding history at your population site
- Do cut tests throughout the population to ensure seed is at peak
maturity
- Overestimate the number of plants you think you should collect
from. Count the number of seed per plant and multiply out to get to 10,000+
seed.
- Data forms should be completely filled out; there are no optional
data fields.
- Package and label material well – roll over, tape and/or staple
paper bags.
- You may ship multiple collections in a single box.
Q: Is there an opportunity to store smaller collections somewhere else?
A: SOS will contact you if your collection is <2000 seed. These small
collections are not being submitted for long-term storage. A minimum of
6000 seed are required in order to have a working collection available. If
your collection team collects more than 10,000 seed per accession, you may
fill out the Clearance Form (
http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/more/fish__wildlife_and/plants/seeds_of_success/protocol/appendix_4.html)
if you would like the overage sent back to your office or a partner
institution.
Steps for making quality herbarium vouchers
- Guidance available on SOS website
- Labels should accompany your vouchers, however datasheets are not
necessary
- Prepare vouchers to fit an herbarium sheet (11.5”x16.5”)
- Contact Meghann Toner or Andrew Clark (tonerm at si.edu, clarkat at si.edu)
if you have any questions relating to herbarium vouchers.
Contact Kayla Herriman for questions relating to Bend Seed Extractory and
