SOS Collectors Call - September 10, 2013

There were 27 participants on the call.

Closing out 2013 collection season

- *Data forms* – Please send them to mahaidet at blm.gov as soon as they are
complete. We are writing an article on the program and would like to
include 2013 data in our analysis.

- *Annual report *– Annual reports are due at the end of the calendar
year. Please take a look at them and keep track of partnerships,
volunteers, and educational/outreach events.

- *Photos* - Remember to use the naming convention featured in the SOS
Protocol. Please either email photo files or send a cd.

- *Herbarium vouchers - *Smithsonian does not need data forms, just labels
(this change will be reflected in the next update of the SOS Protocol).
Please include contact information, in case Smithsonian needs to follow up.

- *Clearance forms* – Please submit these, with at least 30 days turn
around time, if you would like any seed balance returned to your office.
If you have more than 3 collections to request back, please use the Word
document and add extra rows to the form.

Looking ahead to 2014

- *Update on data entry portal* – We are working with the developers on
this. Once the product is ready, a small group from the field will test
it. Once all of the kinks are worked out we will let everyone know.
Multiple webinars will be presented to inform the field how to use the
web-based data entry portal.

- *Training courses* - Are especially important for new collection teams.

BLM Seed Collection for Conservation and Restoration course May 12-16,
Boise, ID

CLM Seed Collection for Conservation and Restoration training June 9-13,
Glencoe, IL

Cleaning progress is going well, 30% so far, hoping to finish by spring

Kayla will be on maternity leave beginning in December and ending in
February. Please contact her (kherriman at fs.fed.us) if you have any
questions, she will forward information to Jim Garner her backup, response
time will be a little longer than normal

Please send all seed by Dec. if possible

Holiday closures – no long closures but staff will slim down Dec. 20-Jan3
to take vacation for the holidays. Please avoid sending seed

*- Smithsonian Update* - 700 vouchers received this year

If any changes need to be made to the identification of a species, contact
mahaidet at blm.gov with the information that needs to be edited. Depending
on where the seed and data is in the chain of collection to cleaning to
storage, Megan Haidet will contact the appropriate parties so the data can
be updated appropriately.
