Monthly SOS Collectors Call
December 6, 2011

There were 25 participants on the call.

2010 Stats

-          3322 collections were made

-          1327 unique species were collected

-          Collections from 22 different states

-          Collections from 52 different ecoregions

2011 Expectations

-          1,700+ collections expected

-          1241 collections have been checked into the Bend Seed Extractory as of 12.5.11

Year end wrap up

-          Deadline for shipping seed

o   Dec. 10th = Deadline for sending seed to Bend

o   If you cannot meet this deadline please notify Nita Rauch

-          Annual Reporting Deadlines

o   Dec. 31st

o   If you cannot meet this deadline please notify Megan Haidet

-          Recordkeeping for next year

o   Help next years' collection team and leave them a clear note stating:

§  start with XXX accession number

§  any herbarium specimens that need to be collected

-          Early in 2012 we hope to have national mapping resources that help collection teams view which species have been collected, so to understand the gaps in the national collection.

Requesting Seed Back

-          Clearance Forms:

o   Pertain to current year collections processed by Bend (2011 only)

o   Must be sent to SOS National Office for approval

o   Must include FedEx number to cover shipping expense

-          Pre-2011 Bend Inventories:

o   These requests must be directed to the SOS National Office

o   The original collection team has the first right of refusal to the seed they collected

o   Process guidance and forms are being drafted

o   The requestor will be responsible for a $25 retrieval fee and shipping charges

-          Genetic Resources Information Network

Seed Collection for Restoration Course

-          April 24-26 in Las Vegas

-          This course is recommended for those that are trying to establish a native seed program in their offices.

-          This course is for mentors, priority goes to BLM employees and SOS partners

Next call: February 7, 2012 (**note, no call in Jan)
