CHICAGO -- Pitcher's thistle, whose fuzzy leaves and creamy pink puffs 
once thrived in the sand dunes along several of the Great Lakes, was 
driven by development, drought and weevils into virtual extinction from 
the shores of Lake Michigan decades ago.
