2023 SUMMER COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT

The University of Washington (UW) Herbarium at the Burke Museum and the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) are pleased to co-sponsor a 28 contact-hour course in Plant Identification for Wetland Delineation during June 2023.

DESCRIPTION: This hybrid course combines pre-recorded lectures; one in-person lab session (June 16, UW Seattle main campus) to cover difficult groups such as grasses, sedges, and rushes; two in-person all-day field sessions (June 17 and 24); and live virtual office hours. The course covers important plant families and the identification and natural histories of more than 300 trees, shrubs, forbs, grasses, sedges, rushes, and aquatic plants found in wetland and riparian habitats in low elevation Western Washington. Focus will be on rapid field identification during the growing season and, as applicable, in winter. Whether you're a wetland consultant, a naturalist, an environmental planner, or ecological restorationist, this course will expand your botanical vocabulary and proficiency in identifying Washington's diverse wetland and riparian flora.

COST: $550 USD ($500 if a member of WNPS). Details and registration at https://www.wnps.org/wnps-annual-events/workshops/1-wetland-id-course. Proceeds from the course support the University of Washington Herbarium and WNPS.
