This information, based on a publication from the Feb 2017 "Journal of
Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences," has important implications for
restoration following wildfires!
*New Dataset Links Atmospheric Rivers to Wildfire Patterns in the Southwest*
In the western U.S., atmospheric rivers provide critical winter
precipitation, but they can also cause extreme flooding and may have other
unexplored ecological impacts. A new publicly available dataset from the
Southwest CSC examines how atmospheric rivers affect dryland vegetation
productivity and thus available fuel loads for wildfires.
