MENDING BROKEN WINGS: APPROACHES TO RESTORING BIRD POPULATIONS IMPACTED BY
CONTAMINANTS (Ecological Restoration for Birds)

Webinar date/time: March 13; 12:15-1:15pm ET

Duration: 1 hour

What will you learn?

Oil spills and other releases of hazardous substances adversely affect
birds worldwide. In the United States, statutes and regulations allow
natural resource trustees to take actions to restore and enhance impacted
natural resources, including migratory birds. Such actions include nesting
habitat restoration, island habitat enhancement for seabirds, and other
traditional approaches targeted at benefiting individual birds or
populations. This presentation will discuss examples where ecological
restoration or enhancement approaches have successfully helped bird species
impacted by chemical releases or oil spills. Novel approaches being used
around the world to protect, enhance, or restore bird populations will also
be discussed.
