Overview: The Chicago Botanic Garden seeks a conservation ecologist with
research strengths in landscape ecology, community ecology, plant/animal
interactions, or seed ecology for its Plant Science and Conservation
Division. Duties include developing a conservation-oriented research
program, seeking external funding, collaborating with a wide range of
academic stewardship organizations, and teaching/mentoring. The successful
candidate will be expected to teach Plant Community Ecology at Northwestern
University as part of the joint Chicago Botanic Garden/Northwestern
University graduate program in Plant Biology and Conservation and will
mentor graduate students as well as students in the Garden's Science Career
Continuum.

Purpose:
The Garden's Plant Science and Conservation Division provides national and
international leadership in plant conservation science and training,
conducts critical natural resource management research, and offers a
comprehensive research facility for researchers and students. For more

Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role,you will be responsible for the following:

   - Conduct conservation-oriented ecological research
   - Prepare grant proposals to provide financial support for research
   - Teach classes, provide lectures, and mentor students as needed in
   support of research initiatives and institutional programs
   - Disseminate research results to a broad audience through lectures,
   publications in refereed and technical journals, presentations at meetings,
   websites, and blogs
   - Seek additional collaborations with other agencies and universities
   that will extend the capabilities and maximize the impact of the Garden's
   research and outreach efforts
   - Assist the senior director of ecology and conservation with duties and
   responsibilities as assigned to meet the research and conservation needs of
   the Garden

Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate will have the following:

   - Ph.D. in ecology, botany, biology, or related field
   - Strong quantitative skills
   - Teaching and mentoring experience
   - A desire to work at a nonprofit institution

Preferred qualifications:

   - A record of scholarly publication
   - Demonstration to secure external funding
   - Experience in teaching at the university level

Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, listening, speaking, and
keyboarding. Use of laboratory and office equipment. Some requirements for
lifting, pushing, or pulling items less than 30 pounds. Outdoor fieldwork
in a variety of conditions likely.
