I must say that I agree with James. This doesn't fit the definition of
"native" that we use in Texas.

The article defines "native" as plants hardy in South Dakota, and is
accompanied by pictures and examples of plants of Eurasian origin. 
Putting it politely: Not exactly fitting my definition of native.
