Call for Nominations: AIBS 2011 Awards

Each year, AIBS honors professionals who make significant contributions to
advancing biological research and education.

Nominations are now being accepted for the AIBS 2011 Distinguished
Scientist, Outstanding Service, and Education awards.
Distinguished Scientist Award:
The AIBS Distinguished Scientist Award is presented annually to
individuals who have made significant scientific contributions to the
biological sciences. Many of this century's most eminent biological
scientists have been recipients of this award including Ernst Mayr, Steven
Gould, and Lynn Margulis. Nominees may advance biological research in any
of the biological disciplines.
Education Award:
The AIBS Education Award is presented annually to individuals or groups
who have made significant contributions to education in the biological
sciences. Past recipients include Bruce Alberts, Rodger Bybee, and Jo
Handelsman. Nominees may work to advance biological education in formal
education (K-16); informal public education programs; or professional
programs that educate biologists.
Outstanding Service Award
The AIBS Outstanding Service Award is presented annually in recognition of
individuals' and organizations' noteworthy service to the biological
sciences. Among those who have been recognized for their service to
biology are Rita Colwell, Genie Scott, and Robert Pennock. Nominees may
lead initiatives or dialogs that help the biology community advance in a
new and exciting way, work to innovatively solve a problem facing the
community, or contribute above and beyond the professional call of duty.

The Nominations Deadline for the 2011 Awards is September 1, 2011. Awards
