Seasonal Plant Technician Position

We are seeking a Seasonal Plant Technician position that will be based out 
of Cheyenne, Wyoming.  A major portion of the position will support the 
Seeds of Success program http://www.nps.gov/plants/sos/.   The Technician 
will be exposed to and/or interact with nearly all of BLM.s lines of 
business (e.g. Wildlife, Reclamation, Sensitive Species, Invasive Species, 
Native Plant Materials Development, Land Use Planning, Information 
Management) and thus will provide an excellent general introduction to the 
BLM as well as specific experience in Botany-related tasks & projects. 
The position will start as soon as possible in May or June; will extend 
through September (or possibly longer).  Travel will be required. 
Applicants must pass a security check.

Examples of tasks the Technician may be involved in are:

* Seeds of Success and Native Plant Materials Development research, 
reconnaissance, collection, and reporting
* Botany-related Educational & Outreach material development & 
dissemination to public
* Data management & sharing, particularly statewide legacy data 
organization & entry
* Botany web page content management
* BLM involvement with the National Phenological Network
* Statewide Plant Conservation Program task tracking
* Verbal and written communication with BLM personnel and BLM partners 
(e.g.  Universities, other government agencies, state or local agencies).
* Research of Botany-related topics and compilation/ summarization of 
material
* Training & leading volunteer or student groups

Desired skills and qualifications are:

* Undergraduate or Masters degree or equivalent experience in Botany or 
Biology
* Computer competency (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, 
file navigation skills; GIS, GPS & database experience preferred)
* Verbal and written communication skills
* Quantitative ability
* Organizational skills
* Botanical or biological field experience
* Evidence of past responsible and dependable work performance
* Enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and ability to work as team member 
and leader
* Valid Driver's license
