General Description:
Position: East Cascades Forest Program Manager

The East Cascades Forests Program Manager works closely with the East 
Cascades Forests Director to advance the Conservancy's work on 
Washington's east Cascades range, with a particular focus in Chelan and 
Okanagan Counties. The position will answer to East Cascades Forests 
Director in Yakima;  but would ideally work from the Wenatchee office 
where s/he can engage in the communities of north central Washington and 
engages in  the work of the Conservancy's two offices in Eastern 
Washington. S/he participates on east side management team.

Tasks:

- Focus on meeting The Conservancy's goal of conservation at scale 
in the forests of eastern/central Washington, through strategic 
acquisition, restoring fire-adapted forest ecosystems through accelerated 
restoration, the development of cooperative partnerships and the creation 
of market-based tools

- Engage agencies and private partners in efforts to address the 
political, social, and economic hurdles that hinder protection and 
restoration of public and private forestlands in Washington's East 
Cascades range.

- Provide leadership to community partnerships with agencies and NGOs 
whose work is aimed at advancing innovative management strategies and 
accelerating forest restoration as called for in the Chapter's strategic 
plan

- Participate strategically in key processes such as forest plan 
revisions, watershed planning, etc. where Conservancy leadership can 
advance conservation goals on partner lands

- Bring creativity to the development of conservation strategies, 
for instance utilizing approaches that support working forest land; the 
application of ecosystem services concepts and/or carbon markets; and 
biomass operations and forest restoration

- Work closes with key partners on the Icicle Fund lands committee 
and the Yakama Nation and Colville Tribe to develop financing tools for 
strategic conservation projects in the forests of north central Washington

- Collaborate with agency and private partners to implement stewardship 
contracts that address forest health concerns and create economic 
benefits for local communities

- Work with East Cascades Forests Director to engage with other large 
scale forest restoration efforts involving Conservancy chapters in 
the west, seeking to develop and share knowledge and experience as well as 
expand finance tools

- Participate in forestland prioritization and planning efforts with 
Chapter's freshwater and planning staff as called for in Chapter strategic 
plan

Qualifications:

- Strong understanding of fire adapted  forest ecology and the major 
threats to these systems including human development, fire, pests and 
climate change

- Experience working with diverse communities in eastern/central 
Washington preferred; advancing conservation efforts that reflect 
community values and have the support of diverse stakeholders

- Experience with agencies, tribes and other stakeholders engaged in 
eastern Washington land management issues and policies

- Ability to clearly articulate the Conservancy's mission among 
varied audiences and to shape its strategy for meeting conservation goals 
with partners

- Demonstrated strategic thinker; capable of recognizing nascent 
opportunities and comfortable initiating relationships and projects to 
advance long term conservation with limited oversight

- Familiarity with land transactions for conservation, including 
working with public and private land owners, knowledge of public funding 
programs and other conservation tools used to protect land
