THREE field assistant positions available in the Kremen Lab
1. Full time temporary field assistant needed, April 2008 - August 2008,
Davis CA (pollination/restoration ecology)
PROJECT: The Kremen Lab is field testing restoration protocols designed to
restore floral and nesting resources needed by native bees on farms in
Yolo County, CA. Due to the collaborative nature of this project, this
position is an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is
interested in applied research, habitat restoration, pollinator ecology,
and/or botany. Responsibilities will include field monitoring of native
bees (including specimen collection and curation), data management, plant
care (watering), seed harvesting and counting, GPS data collection,
vegetation surveys, plant specimen collection and curation for voucher
specimens, and working with citizen scientists to test simplified
monitoring protocols. This position may be extended with the possibility
of promotion after August.

2. Full time temporary field assistant needed, March 2008 - July 2008,
Davis CA (pollination ecology/agroecology)
PROJECT: The Kremen Lab will be assessing the costs and benefits to
growers of maintaining or establishing semi-natural land in agricultural
landscapes. This includes: (1) measuring pollination services provided by
restored native bee habitat and (2) assessing natural biological pest
control and pollination benefits from established hedgerows.
Responsibilities will include plant propagation and care, data management,
and seed harvesting and counting. Additional responsibilities will
includes field site set up, field monitoring of insects (including
specimen collection and curation) and maintaining insect populations in
the lab.

3. Full time temporary field assistant needed, April 2008 - August 2008,
Davis CA (agroecology/pollination ecology)
PROJECT: Assessing costs and benefits to growers of maintaining or
establishing semi-natural land in agricultural landscapes including
measuring natural biological pest control and pollination benefits from
established hedgerows in Yolo County, CA. Responsibilities will include
setting up collection sites, field collections of insects and maintaining
insect populations in the lab. While training will be provided, the
successful candidate will be required to work in the field and lab without
direct supervision and on their own some of the time. Previous field work
experience required for this position. An undergraduate or masters degree
in biology is an asset but not required.
