Interesting article.  However, I feel more research should be done on
the phytoremediation potential of plants in their natural state.
Scientists are jumping to transgenic experimentation before adequately
exploring the plants that already exist because research money is
there only to fund something you can throw a patent on.

Case in point:  a great deal of effort was expended by Australia to
run prickly pear (Opuntia spp.) into virtual extinction.  That's a
shame, because prickly pear can clear metal contamination from water.
