Re: [Pollinator] Honeybees, Satellites, and Climate Change: Free Public
Event...
Laurie,
Wayne Esaias, a fellow Montgomery County Beekeeper, has tracked for
decades the onset of nectar flows in the increasingly urbanized areas
immediately north of Washington, DC. Volunteers, with their bee hives on
platform scales, repeatedly have submitted data to Dr. Esaias. He now has
been able to determine an advance in dates, for our main flows (tulip
poplar and black locust), most likely explained by loss of trees and
increased application of macadam and cement as parking lots and paved
roads. It's interesting and thoughtful work.

Honeybees, Satellites, and Climate Change: Free Public Event at the
Library of Congress, April 3

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD is partnering with the
Library of Congress, Science, Technology, and Business Division to bring
research results of remote sensing observations of the Earth to the
public. Dr. Wayne Esaias is a research scientist using satellite remote
sensing to understand the ecological impacts of climate change, and also a
master beekeeper. The public is invited to his presentation at the
Library on April 3, "Honeybees, Satellites, and Climate Change," in which
he will describe his investigation of the effects of climate change on
honeybees and its implications for agriculture. For details, go to:
