Utah agencies work to boost availability of native plants
USU, Botanical Center cultivate seed supplies for commercial and 
conservation purposes

Utah may not seem like fertile ground to many gardeners, but our diversity 
of native plant species is top-notch. Native species are beautiful, 
drought-tolerant, wildlife-nurturing and place-defining. Increasingly 
popular in commercial and home landscapes, native plants are also 
preferred for restoration projects and plantings at burned, overgrazed or 
otherwise disturbed sites. To boost native plant seed availability, Utah 
State University researchers participate in a cooperative project called 
the Great Basin Native Plant Selection and Increase Project (NPSIP).
