EPA Pesticide Program Update (OPP approved 3/16/06)
EPA to Hold Public Workshops for Proposed Rule on Data Requirements

The Environmental Protection Agency is inviting the public to
participate in two workshops to discuss the provisions of a recently
proposed rule that would update and revise the data requirements for
registering biochemical and microbial pesticides. On March 8, EPA
published a notice of proposed rulemaking to update and clarify data
requirements for biochemical and microbial pesticides (40 CFR, Part
158). That notice announced a public comment period – open until June 6
– for the proposal soliciting the views of stakeholders and the general
public. The proposed rule is available through our Web site at
http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-PEST/2006/March/Day-08/p2185.htm.

Some of the proposed revisions apply to the data submission process,
such as revised policy on data waivers, consultations, and
pre/post-submission meetings. Although the workshops will not cover
conventional pesticides, antimicrobial pesticides, or product
performance data, all interested parties are welcome since EPA has
already issued or is planning future revisions to the regulations in
these three areas. The Federal Register Notice for this announcement is
available on EPA’s Web site at
http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-PEST/2006/March/Day-15/p3728.htm.

The first public workshop will take place in the Washington, D.C., area
on Thursday, March 30, 2006, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (EST) in Room
1126 (“Fishbowl”) of EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs in Crystal City.
The street address is 1801 S. Bell St., Arlington, VA. If you are
unable to attend this workshop in person, conference lines are
available:

   Dial-in Number: 866-299-3188
         Conference Code: 7033056598

The second public workshop will take place in Sacramento, CA, on
Tuesday, April 11, 2006, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (PST) at the
University of California at Davis Extension, Sutter Square Galleria,
Room No. 209. The street address is 2901 K Street, Sacramento, CA.
Visitor information for this location is available at
http://www.metrochamber.org, or by calling the UC-Davis Extension at
916-327-7072.

While no formal registration is required, please contact Nathanael
Martin in EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs at 703-305-6475, or e-mail
martin.nathanael at epa.gov if you plan to attend.
