CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS FOR PRESENTATION AT THE

V INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE NATIVE FLORA OF ARID LANDS

March 29-31th, 2006

Hermosillo, Sonora, México


Sessions are planned for the following disciplines: 
     Taxonomy and Ethnobotany
     Ecology and Conservation
     Phytochemistry
     Xeryscaping
    Agronomy of native species

We solicit your help in calling this to the attention of your colleagues
and your students who are interested in attending and presenting papers.

Awards for both the best oral and poster presentations will be given.


ABSTRACT SUBMITTAL
Abstract submission must be done online NO LATER than DECEMBER 1, 2005.
Complete drafts (<15 pages, including figures, tables, etc.) before
January 15, 2006.


INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Title and Abstracts:
A title and abstract must be submitted for each paper or poster to be
presented at the Symposium. Abstracts will be published in the
Proceedings exactly in the form and condition submitted by the author.
Every error which appears in the submitted abstract will appear in the
printed abstract. Each author must, therefore, prepare his/her abstract
with extreme care. Please read the following instructions carefully
before preparing your abstracts.

General Requirements:
Type the abstract, single spaced, using a size 12 font (Times New Roman,
if available). Use version 97 or higher of MS Word to prepare the
abstract. Either Macintosh or Windows format is acceptable. Abstracts
submitted in Macintosh format will be converted to Windows format for
printing.
The abstracts must be e-mailed as an attachment along with registration
fees to be received by the Committee on or before December 1, 2005. More
than one abstract may be submitted together.

Specifications for the Abstracts.
Titles. Use a short, concise title that indicates the content of the
abstract. Capitalize all letters of the title.
Double space between title and author's name and between author's name
and the body of the abstract.
Authors and Institutions. Capitalize only the first letter of the
author's names. If the paper is of joint authorship, underline the name
of the author who will make the presentation. Each author should be
listed by institution, city and state. Do NOT include department,
division, professional titles, etc.
Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 250 words (12 pt. font). Do not
exceed this count.

REGISTRATION FEE:
Authors are required to submit with their abstracts a REGISTRATION FEE of
$20 US for students and $85 for non-students, before January 30th, 2006,
and $30 US for students and $100 for non-students until March 29 th,
2006. The registration fees include meeting attendance, printing of
conference materials, administrative costs, refreshment breaks, coffee,
special refreshments for the poster sessions, and the closure reception
on Friday, March 31 th, 2006. For papers authored by more than one in al,
THE PRESENTER should submit the appropriate registration fee. Other
authors planning to attend the meeting should register using the form
that will be included in the Symposium homepage (
www.florazonasaridas.uson.mx ).

Make checks payable to Universidad de Sonora. If multiple fees are
included in a single check, please indicate on the check exactly who the
fees are for. Clip (DO NOT STAPLE) the check to one of the copies of the
abstract. Abstracts submitted without the registration fee will be
rejected!

All active participants (i.e. those contributing papers or posters) and
vendors must register.


NOTIFICACION OF ACCEPTANCE:
Enclose a self addressed, stamped post card or provide an e-mail address
so that the Committee may notify you of acceptance of your paper and the
time of your presentation.


ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
Oral presentations must be in recent Power Point version in PC format.
Drafts are due by January 15, 2006. Presentations not received by that
time will be removed from the program. Expect to be limited to the time
of presentation stated.

Projection Equipment:
Projection equipment will include overhead projectors, computer (MS
Windows, PowerPoint) projectors and 35 mm projectors. Authors requiring
other types of projection equipment are responsible for supplying that
additional equipment.
