OUTREACH NOTICE
April 2004

The Intermountain Region is planning to advertise one position on the
Bio-Physical Resources Staff (Wildlife, Fish, Soil, Water, Minerals and
Geology) in the near future.  The position is:

Interdisciplinary - Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive Species Program
Manager

- Ecologist GS-0408-13
- Botanist GS-0430-13
- Fishery Biologist GS-0482-13
- Wildlife Biologist GS-0486-13

The incumbent serves as a principal assistant to the Regional Staff
Director for wildlife, fish, and botany management and is responsible for
Regional leadership and interagency coordination for the Threatened,
Endangered, and Sensitive (TES) Plant and Animal Species Program.

The position will be located in the Regional Office in Ogden, UT.

THE REGION:

The Intermountain Region has 31,816,792 acres in the National Forest
Systems located in six states (Nevada, Utah, Southern Idaho, Southwestern
Wyoming, California and Colorado).  There are 19 national forests in
Region 4 administered by 13 Supervisor's Offices.  There are approximately
2200 permanent employees in Region 4.

THE COMMUNITY:

The regional office is located in Ogden, Utah (www.ogdencity.com) in
northern Utah.  Ogden has a diverse population of 64,000.  A full service
community, Ogden is located in Weber County, Utah
(www.chamberogdenweber.org) which has a population of 158,000.  Ogden is
one hour north of Salt Lake City and one hour south of the Idaho order on
Interstate 15 (www.city-data.com/city/Ogden-Utah.html).  The Ogden area
has major city amenities, from professional and minor league sports, to
fine dining, theater, concerts, museums and other social and cultural
opportunities.

Housing availability is high in Ogden and surrounding communities.  House
rentals begin at approximately $650 per month and average about $1,000 per
month.  Two-bedroom  apartment rental average about $600 per month.  The
average cost of home purchases recently marketed in the Ogden/Weber County
area is $128,000; while condominiums start at $60,000.  Utilities are
priced moderately.

Ogden media includes:  The Standard Examiner (www.standard.net) is the
main local newspaper for Ogden and Weber County.  Local television
includes television stations from Salt Lake City and cable television and
radio stations in Ogden and Salt Lake City.

Educational facilities in Ogden and Weber County include two public school
districts and 7 private schools, which offer K-12 education.  Ogden Weber
Applied Technology Center is a fully accredited technical skills training
center and Weber State University and Utah State University offer higher
education opportunities.

Medical Services:  Ogden has a large medical community with a wide variety
of specialists, a number of clinics, and two major hospitals, McKay-Dee
Hospital Center and Columbia Regional Medical Center.

Recreation around Ogden:  Ogden is especially attractive for those who
enjoy sports and the outdoors.  Within 30 minutes you can be skiing,
hiking, camping, fishing and within close proximity, cycling and golfing.
Ogden has some of the most spectacular mountain trails and views
imaginable; from mountain lakes surrounded by pine forests to desert
sunsets.  The 2002 Winter Olympics were held in this area.  The Utah Jazz
typically make the NBA playoffs (except this year), AAA baseball in Salt
Lake City, AA baseball in Ogden and Provo.  For northerners
Ogden has the
'curling rink' used for the Olympics; so grab a broom and come on.

Community recreation includes a number of local health clubs.  The Ogden
Parks and Recreation provides many recreational opportunities.
