Education Outreach Internships Available!
       Native Plant Values, Conservation Ethics, Habitat Restoration

                            Zion National Park
                                     &
       Cedar Breaks National Monument, Pipe Spring National Monument

Duties:  Interns through the Student Conservation Association (SCA) will
assist with an educational outreach program to local schools and community
groups on habitat restoration, values of native plants, and conservation
ethics.  The program will work with local elementary schools and
communities in southern Utah and along the Arizona Strip to highlight
values of native habitats and threats to them.  The interns will work
alongside a National Park Service Park Ranger and on occasion, with a
raptor biologist, providing classroom lessons and hands-on field trips in
Cedar Breaks National Monument, Pipe Spring National Monument and Zion
National Park.  In addition, the interns will help organize events for a
week long Earth Day celebration in spring 2005.  The interns will also
assist ZION Vegetation Staff gaining skills in native plant restoration and
native plant propagation (we have a greenhouse and nursery at ZION).

Timeframe:
One 3 month position beginning in mid-September thru mid-December, 2004
One 3 month position beginning in February thru April, 2005
One 6 month position beginning in February thru July, 2005
One 3 month position beginning in June thru August, 2005

Benefits:
<  3 month internships offer $60/week living stipend, small uniform
allowance, possible educational award, round-trip travel to ZION and
housing in ZION.
  6 month internships offer $160/week living stipend, medical insurance,
possible educational award, small uniform allowance, round-trip travel to
ZION and housing in ZION.

Qualifications:
  Enthusiasm for working with children and adults providing education
outreach to build advocates and protectors of natural and cultural
treasures.
  Interest in habitat restoration and native plants.
  Person who is self-motivated, reliable and embraces new challenges.
