Subject: The Desert LCC is recruiting a Science Coordinator!

Good morning,

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) Southwest Region Science
Applications program (http://www.fws.gov/southwest/science/index.html) will
soon be recruiting a Science Coordinator for the Desert Landscape
Conservation Cooperative (LCC) (Interdisciplinary, GS-0401/1301-12/13). For
more information on the LCC, please visit (http://www.usbr.gov/dlcc/).

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with outstanding
interpersonal skills, to help address the complexities of modern-day,
landscape-scale conservation and science and advance its application across
the Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative geography (including parts of
Mexico) and across the Southwest Region of the Service.

The position is located on the campus of the University of Arizona in
Tucson, Arizona.

The Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative Science Coordinator is a
biologist and/or physical scientist, who wears multiple hats, representing
the Desert LCC as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service. You will work
hand-in-glove with the Desert LCC Coordinator, a Bureau of Reclamation
employee. You will join a collaborative team of professionals and work
within a multi-partnership context to help the LCC achieve its collective
mission and goals. Science Applications is a non-regulatory program, about
6 years old, whose goal is to build science capacity and capability within
the Service and with partners to effectively and collaboratively address
landscape-scale stressors, including climate change, that affect wildlife
and other natural resources. Your primary role will be to collaboratively
develop, maintain and advance a strategic, landscape-scale
partnership-driven approach to integrate fish, wildlife and natural
resource conservation.

Specific duties include:

• Help identify and resolve natural resource management issues by
applying and integrating natural and cultural resources sciences, including
geospatial information, with knowledge of climate change

• Provide scientific and technical expertise and coordination support in
refining the scientific and technical underpinning of fish and wildlife
conservation strategies and plans for species of priority for the Desert
LCC area

• Coordinate an adaptive management approach, which the Service calls
Strategic Habitat Conservation, and includes biological planning,
conservation design, assumption-driven research, and monitoring/evaluation

• Collaborate and explore innovative means to leverage human and
financial assets among agencies, organizations, and partnerships to help
implement the functional elements of the Strategic Habitat Conservation
framework, in pursuit of sustainable landscapes.

• Spanish language skills a plus!
