I'm guessing that you want to locate Hierochloe odorata (a common synonym is Anthoxanthum nitens), but several other species are also known by the common name "sweetgrass" or "sweet grass" (see for example the GRIN Taxonomy for Plants results of a "sweetgrass" query at http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/tax_search.pl). You can find distribution and conservation status information on the NatureServe Explorer database (http://www.natureserve.org/explorer/servlet/NatureServe?sourceTemplate=tabular_report.wmt&loadTemplate=species_RptComprehensive.wmt&selectedReport=RptComprehensive.wmt&summaryView=tabular_report.wmt&elKey=129062&paging=home&save=true&startIndex=1&nextStartIndex=1&reset=false&offPageSelectedElKey=129062&offPageSelectedElType=species&offPageYesNo=true&post_processes=&radiobutton=radiobutton&selectedIndexes=129062).

Once established in a garden (needs a lot of sun), it grows and spreads perhaps more than you might appreciate!
