Hello Steven,
Here's a new standard coming out,
http://www.scscertified.com/foodag/sustainable/FairLabor.html
Some interesting remarks being made on the SANET list regarding the use of focus groups to craft policy rather than public outreach and participation, democracy in action minus a public role.
Be well, Jennifer

This is a very positive spin on a troubling approach. There is a lot of
concern regarding the non-participatory approach Scientific Certification
System used to develop the draft standard and that they are paying the
Leonardo Institute - a very small organization with NO agricultural
experience -- to serve as the ANSI sponsor. SCS is already able to certify
to the standard as a "pilot". There was NO significant stakeholder process
used to get to this point. The recent conference calls do not allow for ANY
input -- all participants are muted. Maybe there is a new definition to
stakeholder process that does not include stakeholders!

Draft Sustainable Agriculture Standard to be Introduced
An effort to develop a sustainable agriculture ANSI (American
National Standards Institute) standard was launched in October. The
"Sustainable Agriculture Practice Standard for Food, Fiber and
Biofuel Crop Producers and Agricultural Product Handlers and
Processors" (SCS-001: Draft Standard for Trial Use) will be
introduced February 4 in a teleconference. The Leonardo Academy, an
ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization, is assembling a
balanced, multi-stakeholder group to participate in this transparent,
consensus-building standard setting process. A Stakeholder Dialogue
Meeting is set for February 29, in Arlington, Virginia. Registration
information for both events and support documentation on the standard
development process are available online.

Does any one know of any current service marks or trade marks designating sustainably harvested wild herbs in use in North America?
Thanks,
