Subject: Natural Resource Monitoring Partnership
We did it!
The Natural Resource Monitoring Partnership (NRMP) is pleased to announce
the release of the new Monitoring Protocol Library and the Monitoring
Locator! The NRMP is a collaborative effort by the natural resource
management community to improve the accessibility of monitoring efforts in
order to support effective evaluation and decision-making. Through the
hard work and perseverance of our state, federal, and Canadian natural
resource management agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and academic
institutions we've achieved our goal!
Monitoring Protocol Library .a searchable database that provides
information on monitoring protocols and resource assessment methodologies
organized to facilitate reference and use.
Monitoring "Locator" - an internet-based application that allows users to
identify what natural resource monitoring is being conducted within a
particular area (e.g., State, county, Canadian Province, or other selected
geographic area).
We need YOU to help put this groundbreaking endeavor into motion. Please
support this effort by contributing information on your protocols and
monitoring programs in order to make both databases a truly comprehensive,
multi-agency source of monitoring information. Here is how you can help:
- Visit the NRMP website! Log in as a contributor; and become familiar
with the tools;
- Work within your organization to enter your protocols and monitoring
projects;
- Encourage your colleagues in other organizations to do the same.
Over the next few months we will continue to add refinements to these
tools such as improved search capabilities, batch file uploading
capabilities, and the ability to provide a geographic rendering of search
results from the monitoring locator. But for now, both tools are ready
for use, so please help us get the word out, and help us build the
databases.
Upcoming Special Event
Through the support of partners there will be a special "NRMP Open House"
on March 21st from 4-6pm held in conjunction with the 72nd annual North
American Wildlife and Natural Resource Conference in Portland Oregon. The
open house will highlight the NRMP, its tools, and to encourage
participants to join the NRMP.
- In order to help make this event a success we challenge you to enter at
least one protocol before the event!
Visit the NRMP tools today at http://nrmp.nbii.gov and enter your programs
and protocols. And don't forget to tell your colleagues about these
tools. A fact sheet and other materials can be downloaded at
