Precisely, the point I have been making. There is no way that even the regulatory authorities can know what goes inside a herbal product, let alone the consumer. As the governments do not create and make mandatory, testing/assay procedures, most herbal products will be sold on trust alone, which is rather hard to come by these days unless the manufacturer is known to the consumer directly.

Some headway has been made by way of GMP guidelines being formulated (and made mandatory) for herbal products (in US, India and a few other countries), the fact remains that unless there are standards to comply for, no particular yardstick will accurately predict the quality (or lack of) in any herbal product.
