Tromp and ISB Scientific Awards

Every three years the International Society of Biometeorology (ISB)
presents scientific awards for excellent papers in all three major
fields of biometeorology, i.e. human, plant and animal biometeorology.
There will be three awards, one in each of the fields. The best of all
three will be chosen for the Tromp Scientific Award, the other two will
receive the ISB Scientific Awards. The Tromp Scientific Awardee will be
invited to the 17th International Congress of Biometeorology in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, 5-9 September 2005 (travel
expenses and registration fee will be paid) and additionally will
receive a check of US$1,000. The ISB Scientific Awardees will receive a
document and a check of US$750. The Tromp Scientific Award is sponsored
by the Dutch Foundation for Biometeorological Research, the ISB
Scientific Awards by the International Society of Biometeorology.

Tromp and ISB Scientific Award application and decision procedure:
The Tromp and ISB Scientific Awards will be awarded to scientists not
older than 35 years for excellent scientific papers in the fields of
biometeorology. The award winning paper should represent a genuine
advancement to the field of biometeorology. The paper has to be
published in an international peer reviewed journal with the nominee as
first author. The award winning paper should not be co-authored by a
member of the Tromp and ISB Scientific Awards Committee; the awardee
should not have been in any direct or official relationship with members
of the Awards Committee (e.g. supervisor-student relationship) for the
last five years prior to this award. The nomination may be made by the
young scientist him/herself or by others working in the field of
biometeorology. The nomination needs to be accompanied by five copies
of the scientific paper, and a short two-page biographical sketch, which
must include the nominee's:
full name;
title (Mr, Ms, Dr, Assoc/Prof, Prof, etc.);
date of birth;
postal address;
phone number;
fax number;
e-mail address;
most significant publications list;
most significant research activities.

Deadline for nomination for Tromp and ISB Scientific Awards is 14 March
2005. The application material has to be sent to the Chair of the Tromp
and ISB Scientific Awards Committee:
Dr Paul Beggs
Department of Physical Geography
Macquarie University
New South Wales 2109
Australia

The Awards Committee consists of:
Paul Beggs (Chair, Sydney, Australia),
Xiaoqui Chen (Peking, China),
Gerd Jendritzky (Germany),
Hesham Khalifa (Cairo, Egypt),
Kyaw Tha Paw U (Davis, USA).

The application material will be distributed to all 5 members of the
Awards Committee. A ranking system will be used to rank papers in all
three categories of biometeorology by order of their importance to the
science and the make up of the paper.

The awardees will be notified by 14 April 2005, so the Tromp Scientific
Awardee can plan his/her trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The awards
will be handed over at the Congress in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 5-9
September 2005.
