1. VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: GLOBAL PROJECT COORDINATOR

"STRENGTHENING VOICES FOR BETTER CHOICES"

The project "Strengthening Voices for Better Choices" will promote the
development of improved forest governance arrangements in six key tropical
forest countries in Africa, Asia and South America. Three broad categories
of stakeholder groups will be targeted: government (line departments,
parliamentarians, local authorities and the judiciary); civil society
(NGOs, CBOs and forest-dependent communities); and the private sector. The
overall objective to which the project will contribute is as follows:

"Forest governance arrangements that facilitate and promote sustainable and
equitable forest conservation and management are in place and under active
implementation in priority regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America."

IUCN-The World Conservation Union seeks to recruit a self-motivated high
calibre professional as the Global Project Coordinator (GPC) of the
"Strengthening Voices for Better Choices" project. The position will be
based in the IUCN Asia Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

Reporting directly to the Coordinator, IUCN Regional Forest Programme,
Asia, the project GPC will be responsible for overall coordination,
management and implementation of the project. Specific duties include:

·       Project management and administration
·       Project planning, assessment and reporting
·       Technical support and guidance
·       Networking, relationship building and communications
·       Fundraising

The position requires a senior person with leadership capability and with
at least ten years relevant professional experience.  The following
specific qualifications are required:

·  A Masters degree in a discipline relevant to forest governance and
policy issues;
·  Thorough understanding of the issues related to the Forest Law
Enforcement, Governance and Trade debate, both at international, national
and local levels;
·  Proven ability to operate both in the global policy arena & at national
& local levels;
·  Ability to analyse and clearly articulate complex issues;
·  Proven ability to manage large and complex international projects;
·  Proven ability to raise funds for natural resource management
activities;
·  Proven ability to organise and facilitate multi-stakeholder
participatory processes;
·  Ability to work under pressure and to deal tactfully with sensitive
political issues;
·  Extensive work experience in one, or preferably more, of the following
continents: Africa, Asia and Latin America;
·  Fluency in English. Knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Portuguese is an
asset;
·  Familiarity with the management procedures of EC funded projects and
with IUCN procedures is an asset;
·  Computer literacy;
·  Cultural awareness and sensitivity to gender issues;
·   Willingness to travel frequently.

The initial contract will be for a period of two years, possibility of
extension. Detailed terms of reference for the position can be provided on
request.
