I am currently recruiting for two positions – one OPS and one TEAMS – at
the Ft Lauderdale REC in Davie FL. Both have the same requirements,
responsibilities and salary range – see below for details. Successful
candidates for both positions will be drawn from the same pool of

*Position description:*

This Agricultural Assistant position is located at the University of
Florida IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie FL. The
successful candidate will assist with aquatic plant culture and control
experiments in the field, greenhouse and mesocosms. Experiments may involve
plant collection, propagation, care and maintenance of containerized
plants, herbicide applications, plant growth measurements and tissue
analysis. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining
and repairing research facilities, cultivation of teaching and research
plant collection and keeping records associated with aquatic plant
experiments.



*Preferred qualifications:*

Familiarity with Florida’s common native and invasive aquatic and wetland
plants
One year of experience preparing, cultivating, maintaining and
field-transplanting SAV sod.
Ability to maintain and repair mechanical equipment (boat motors, pumps,
etc.)
Three years of experience working with aquatic plants in a research setting.
Experience trailering, launching, operating and loading a 16’ skiff.
Florida driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of
employment)
Florida Boater Safety Education ID Card. As required (or ability to obtain
one within 30 days of employment)
Must possess a Florida restricted-use pesticide applicator’s license with
aquatic, natural areas, forestry, demo and research, and right-of-way
categories



Special instructions to applicants:

Work under adverse conditions (extreme heat, high humidity, chest-deep
water, etc.)
Travel up to 10% of the time
Lift up to 80 lbs. without assistance
This position involves extensive outdoor work under inclement conditions,
including extreme heat, humidity and chest-deep water



The successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal background
check and a health assessment
