Dear Marc,
Has some questions about your mustard
project:
1.) How many square feet or acres are you working
on?
2.) Do you physically remove the plants from the site or use
them as mulch to kill other plants nearby?
3.) Ever try knocking
down the plants, then use the mustard stems as mulch?
4.) After the
mustard is managed, what natives are planted/sown to take up that
space?
5.) Ever use native grass mulch?
6.) Ever tested the
soil where the mustards are growing, to see if nutrient deficiencies are
helping the mustards grow there instead of the local natives?  In
California, Italian thistle and medusa head grasses thrive in soils where
the potassium has been grazed out below the threshold needed for native
seedling survival, for example.
