FYI: Scotch broom also caused a near fatal allergic reaction for an East
Coast colleague of mine, who apparently had not been exposed to it before
and traveled to the West Coast when it was in bloom! It was serious
business!

Local group helps lay waste to invasive plant
Darrell Bellaart, The Daily News
Published: Thursday, June 11, 2009

Scotch broom's yellow blossoms make an eye-catching spectacle, but there
is a dark side.

Over time broom can choke out many natural species. That's why a group of
volunteers are gathering tonight to cut down the scraggly plant where it's

growing profusely along the E&N Trail.
