It's listed as genuinely invasive in New Zealand, England, Washington and Oregon, all temperate, moist climates. It's not hardy as a shrub north of zone 5. My own experience, I had a bush for a butterfly garden and it did produce a few seedlings - in flower pots and sidewalk cracks - but not in regular garden soil.
