On November 14, 15 and 16, 2007, the Pulling Together Initiative will host
the second statewide conference on invasive plants at the Lady Bird
Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. Building off the first
statewide invasive plant conference in 2005, the 2007 conference will be a
professional level meeting including keynotes, concurrent sessions,
posters, field trips and symposia. This conference is designed to serve
scientists, land managers, state and federal agencies, local governments,
the green industry and other professionals interested in invasive species
issues in the state of Texas.
Conference Purpose
* Establish a statewide organization representing diverse interests that
shares in the common goal of protecting Texas from the threat of invasive
plants; Facilitate communication among the state's stakeholders who have a
vested interest in invasive plants;
* Provide a venue for sharing information about prevention, early
detection, control & management, information management, and research; and
* Raise public awareness of the problems posed by invasive plants in the
state of Texas.

The 2007 conference will be a professional level meeting including
keynotes, concurrent sessions, posters, and symposia. The Professional
Meeting is designed to serve scientists, land managers, state and federal
agencies, local governments, and other professionals interested in
invasive plant research and policy in Texas. The main program for the
statewide Invasive Plants Conference will be based on key strategies from
the National Invasives Species Council's National Management Plan for
invasive species. New in 2007 - Special Symposium on Old World Bluestems
and an extra 1/2 day for special activities including Aquatic and
Terrestrial Invaders Field Trips and a moderated discussion about creating
an Invasive Species List for Texas.

All participants are invited and encouraged to present some aspect of
their scholarly work in a contributed paper or poster. Submission of
abstracts and other relevant information for contributed papers and
posters will be carried out online. The deadline for receiving abstracts
is October 15, 2007. Electronic submission of abstracts is required and
all presentations (poster and oral) require an Abstract.

Registration for the conference is available online and by mail.
Registration fees cover all three days of conference, lunches, and all
breaks. A limited number of rooms will be available at La Quinta Inn &
Suites Austin Southwest at MoPac. Attendees requiring these rooms should
specify Invasive Plants Conference to receive a reduced rate.
