The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR), in association with the
Ontario Federation of Angler’s and Hunters(OFAH) and other important
partners, is developing a field guide of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in
Ontario waters. We are calling upon experts, such as yourselves whom may
have access to high-resolutions photographs (entire organism and close-ups
of diagnostic/important features) and/or labeled diagrams of the species
indicated below for use in the field guide. We are hoping you could provide
us with these images and would greatly appreciate permission to use them in
the field guide. We are currently seeking images for 12 species of
invertebrates and 20 species of plants which are listed below.
The purpose of this field guide is to provide a user-friendly, albeit
technical, information tool for professionals working in the field, e.g.,
aquatic biologists, researchers, resource managers, field staff,
enforcement, etc. to help in identification of AIS (plants, invertebrates,
fish) currently in our waters or which have a high likelihood of invading
our waters, as well as to provide a basic procedure to follow when a new
species is detected, involving what information to collect and who to
contact to report findings (i.e., in Ontario the OMNR-OFAH Invading Species
Hotline) If you know of someone who you feel would be a good source of
photographs, we encourage you to forward this message along, with a cc to
myself.
We are seeking these images or permission by the second week of April. Our
aim is to have this field guide finalized and printed in time for the
upcoming 2007 field season. Also, would you mind sending a quick email
reply
back to let me know whether you can help, or if I should seek another
contact for this request?
Thank you very much for your time. We look forward to your participation.
Cheers
