Landowners can find relief from tamarisk

Steve Miles of the Dolores Soil Conservation District has been battling a 
tough enemy for years.

It is so invasive it can take up to three years to kill properly, has 
roots that can reach up to 100 feet and can consume up to 300 gallons of 
water a day. Even though it has long been known to be an invasive species, 
the noxious shrub has taken over riverbanks, reservoirs, irrigation 
ditches and other spots across the state and country. If left unchecked, 
it will do irreparable damage, Miles believes.
