[APWG] Midwest Invasive Plant Network Annual Meeting, Cleveland, Oct. 9-10

Please mark your calendars for the annual meeting on invasive plants in the
Midwest.

The Midwest Invasive Plant Network (MIPN) and the Ohio Invasive Plants
Council (OIPC) have organized a special session on invasive plants in the
Midwest at Natural Areas Conference in Cleveland, October 9-12.  In addition
to the special session on invasive plants, there will be a number of other
events of interest to anyone who works with or wants to learn more about
invasive species.



Tuesday, October 9

9:00-11:00AM   MIPN Workshop: Stop Wasting Time on Invasives—Plan Your Way
to Success. Presenter: Ellen Jacquart, Director of Stewardship, The Nature
Conservancy-Indiana.



Wednesday, October 10

8:30AM -12:00PM   Invasive Species & Forest Health: Beyond the Obvious:
Restore, adapt, or ignore? How can land managers and policymakers prepare
for and manage the cascading ecological consequences of invasive species?
Addressing forest invasions from insect pests to plants, pigs to pathogens,
the speakers will reveal the common threads and differences in impact,
management, and prevention of complex invasions.



12:00-1:30 PM   Midwest Invasive Plant Network (MIPN) Annual Meeting

Join us for lunch to learn more about what MIPN is and what we do and to get
involved with the Network.  We will have door prizes and food, so please
join us!



1:30-5:00PM  MIPN/OIPC Special Session on Invasive Plants

University.

·  Ceutorhynchus spp. As Potential Biological Control Agents of Garlic
Mustard in the United States.  Elizabeth J. Katovich, University of
Minnesota.

·  How Researchers and the Nursery Industry Can Work Together to Prevent
Plant Invasions.  Theresa M. Culley, University of Cincinnati and Keith
Manbeck, Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association.

·  Reducing Seed Output and Seed Viability of Cultivars:  How Much Is Enough
to Create a Plant That Will Not Be Invasive? Tiffany Knight, Washington
University.

·  Cooperative Weed Management Areas: Expanding the Successful Western
Concept to the Eastern States.  Kelly Kearns, Wisconsin Department of
Natural Resources.



7:30-9:30PM  Integrating Invasive Plant Species Data in the Midwest:
Solutions for Data Management and Sharing.  Co-hosted by MIPN and the
National Institute for Invasive Species Science (NIISS).



There will be additional contributed talks and posters on invasive plants on
both Wednesday and Friday, so consider staying for the whole week.



Registration is $75 for one day and $190-230 for the whole meeting if you
register by September 7.  Student rates are $40 for one day and $130 for the
